Wallis, an English mathematician, proposed that the symbol A question to think about: What is the biggest number? In 1938, American mathematician Edward Kasner asked his 9-year old nephew Milton Sirotta to make up a name for the huge number written as the number one followed by one hundred zeros. After thinking a moment, Milton decided to name it "googol." Later a "googolplex" was defined as writing the number one followed by a googol of zeros. You can see what these numbers look like here. |
